1 Salopa Fibre
The native trade term for a very stiff, tough and elastic fibre from the stems of the coconut and palmyra palm trees in India and Burma. Used locally for coarse ropes. In 1887 an English firm attempted to use the fibre as a substitute for whalebone in corsets.
